Core Servlets and JSP book is the single most popular book on servlets and JSP internationally, was selected by amazon.com as one of the best five computer programming books of the year, has been the overall weekly #1 bestseller at fatbrain.com nine different times, and spent more than six months as one of the top 10 best-selling computer-related books at amazon.com and at Borders stores nationwide. Core Web Programming has been a best seller in industry as well as being widely used in academia (including Stanford, MIT, Princeton, U.C. Berkeley, UCLA, and Johns Hopkins).

Marty is president of coreservlets.com, a training and consulting company focusing on server-side Java technology. He was formerly a Senior Computer Scientist at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab, where he designed and developed distributed applications (mostly for government clients) in the Research and Technology Development Center.
In addition to long Java development and consulting experience, Marty has extensive teaching and training experience, having given short courses on JSP, servlets, and Struts in the US (many times), Japan (twice), Canada (twice), Australia (twice), Puerto Rico, and the Philippines (twice). He spoke on servlet and JSP technology at JavaOne (three different times), SD West, Comdex, the International Conference for Java Development, and Java user groups in several countries.
Marty has also taught numerous Java/JSP short courses for industry.
