COURSE ADMINISTRATION

GRADING
Your final grade will be based on a mid-term, final exam, and homework assignments. The exams will each be worth 40% and the homework assignments will be worth 20% of your final grade. No extra credit assignments will be given to raise a grade.

EXAMS
The midterm will be a take-home exam. It will be posted on the homepage on Monday, June 30, and it will be due on Thursday, July 3 at 7:00 PM. It will cover the material presented in the first 6 lectures. The final will also be a take-home exam. It will be posted on the homepage on Monday, July 14, and it will be due on Thursday, July 17 at 7:00 PM. It will emphasize the material covered after the midterm.

All students are expected to turn in individual work; no group exams (or homework assignments) are given in this class. Failure to comply with this rule will result in a grade of F on the exam.

If you cannot take an exam at the scheduled time, you must get the instructor's permission before you will be allowed to take the exam at a later time. If permission is granted, you will be allowed to take the exam during the following week. Copies of the exam will be available in the JHU APL office (in the basement of the library building). You must call the office (443-778-6510) and make arrangements for a mutually agreeable time to take the exam. A final exam taken after the last class period will result in an initial grade of incomplete, as the university requires that the instructor must submit all grades within 72 hours of the last class period.

A take-home exam must be handed in by the day and time listed on the exam. You may fax or email the exam up until the time it is due. There will be no exceptions. An exam sent by email should be in should be in one of the following formats: MS Word, PDF or ASCII text to guarantee that it is readable by my mailer. Late exams and exams that are in a format that is unreadable will not be accepted, and will receive a failing grade.

The final exams and homeworks can be gotten back by handing me a self-addressed stamped envelope on the day of the final exam, or by mailing it to me at the following address:

HOMEPAGE
The class homepage will be used to distribute homework assignments, homework solutions, and take-home exams (if any); to make changes in the date assignments are due; and to hand out any additional viewgraphs or notes. It is strongly recommended that you check the web page often to get the latest information. You are responsible for getting the up-to-date information. A dated icon will indicate new information.

CLASS ATTENDANCE
If you are unable to attend class (for any reason whatsoever), you are still responsible for the material covered in class. It is your responsibility to get the information you missed. Howerver, the complete set of viewgraphs of the lectures is available on the homepage.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS
Homework assignments are available on-line. You will have one-week to do a homework assignment. Homework assignments must be handed in on the date that they are due. If you cannot be present in class, you can send the homework by fax or email. Homework solutions sent by email should be in one of the following formats: MS Word, PDF or ASCII text to guarantee that it is readable by my mailer. Late homework assignments and homework assignments that are in a format that is unreadable will not be accepted, and a failing grade will be given for that assignment.
