SCHEDULE
There will not be a class held on October 25. Any additional changes to the schedule will be indicated on the class homepage.

GRADING
Your final grade will be based on a mid-term, final exam, and the homework assignments. Each exam is worth 40% and the homework assignments are worth 20% of your final grade. No extra credit assignments will be given to raise a grade.

EXAMS
The midterm will be a take-home exam. It will be available on the class website on Thursday October 18 and will be due Thursday October 25. It will cover the material presented in the first 6 lectures. The final exam will be given on December 13. It will emphasize the material covered after the midterm.

All students are expected to turn in individual work; no group exams (or homework assignments) are given in this class. Failure to comply with this rule will result in a grade of F on the assignment or exam.

If you cannot be present to take an in-class exam (because you are ill or out-of-town on business), with the instructor's permission, you will be allowed to take the exam anytime before the next class is held. Copies of the exam will be available in the JHU APL office in the basement of the library building. You must call the office (443-778-6510) and make arrangements for a mutually agreeable time to take the exam. A final exam taken after the last class period will result in an initial grade of incomplete, as the university requires that all grades must be handed in by the instructor within 72 hours of the last class period.

A take-home exam MUST be handed in by the day and time listed on the exam. You may email the exam up until the time it is due. There will be no exceptions. An exam sent by email should be sent as a Microsoft Word attachment, pdf or in ASCII text to guarantee that it is readable by my mail program. Late exams and exams that are in a format that is unreadable will not be accepted, and will receive a failing grade.

RETURN OF FINAL EXAM
The final exam can be gotten back by handing me a self-addressed stamped envelope on the day of the final exam or by mailing it to me at the following address:

MITRE Corporation
7515 Colshire Drive
McLean, VA 22102-7508

CLASS HOMEPAGE
The class homepage will be used to distribute homework assignments, homework solutions, and take-home exams (if any); to make changes in the date assignments are due; and to hand out any additional viewgraphs or notes. It is strongly recommended that you check the home page often to get the latest information. New information will be indicated by a dated icon. You are responsible for getting the up-to-date information.

CLASS ATTENDANCE
If you are unable to attend class (for any reason whatsoever), you are still responsible for the material covered in class. It is your responsibility to get the information you missed. A complete set of viewgraphs for all of the lectures is available on the class homepage.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS
Homework assignments are available online. You will have at least one week to do a homework assignment. Homework assignments must be handed in on the date that they are due. If you cannot be present in class, you can send the homework by email. Homework sent by email should be sent as a Microsoft Word attachment, PDF file or an ASCII text file to guarantee that it is readable by my email application. Homework that is late or in a format that is unreadable will not be accepted and a failing grade be given for that assignment.
