GRADING
Your final grade will be based on a mid-term, final exam, and homework assignments. The exams will each be worth 40% and the homework assignments will be worth 20% of your final grade. No extra credit assignments will be given to raise a grade.
EXAMS
The mid-term exam will be given on March 13. It will cover the material presented in the first 6 lectures. The final exam will be given on May 1. It will emphasize the material covered after the mid-term.
All students are expected to turn in INDIVIDUAL work; no group exams (or homework assignments) are given in this class. Failure to comply with this rule will result in a grade of F on the exam.
If you cannot be present to take an in-class exam (because you are ill or out-of-town on business), with the instructor's permission, you will be allowed to take the exam during the following week. Copies of the exam will be available in the JHU APL office (Room L2 in the basement of the library). You must call the office (443-778-6510) and make arrangements for a mutually agreeable time to take the exam. A final exam taken after the last class period will result in an initial grade of incomplete, as the university requires that all grades must be handed in by the instructor within 48 hours of the last class period.
A take-home exam MUST be handed in by the day and time listed on the exam. You may fax or email the exam up until the time it is due. There will be no exceptions. An exam sent by email should be in ASCII text or as a Microsoft Word attachment to guarantee that it is readable by my mailer. Late exams and exams that are in a format that is unreadable will not be accepted, and will receive a failing grade.
The final exams and homeworks can be gotten back by handing me a self-addressed stamped envelope on the day of the final exam, or by mailing it to me at the following address:
WEB PAGE
The web page will be used to distribute homework assignments, homework solutions, and take-home exams (if any); to make changes in the date assignments are due; and to hand out any additional viewgraphs or notes. It is strongly recommended that you check the home page often to get the latest information. You are responsible for getting the up-to-date information. A dated icon will indicate new information.
CLASS ATTENDANCE
If you are unable to attend class (for any reason whatsoever), you are still responsible for the material covered in class. It is YOUR responsibility to get the information you missed. Under no circumstances will class notes be supplied by the instructor; the viewgraphs, of course, are available on the home page.
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS
Homework assignments are available on-line. You will have at least one-week to do a homework assignment. Homework assignments MUST be handed in on the date that they are due. If you cannot be present in class, you can send the homework by fax or email. Homework sent by email should be in ASCII text or as a Microsoft Word attachment to guarantee that it is readable by my mailer. Late homeworks and homeworks that are in a format that is unreadable will not be accepted, and a failing grade be given for that assignment.
