Section 3 - How to use Dial-Up Networking

This section gives some information on how to actually use dial-up networking to dial the phone, connect to the Internet, and hang up.

To start the connection, double-click on the connection made in the last section. For the purpose of instruction I will show the connection I use on my own machine. A sample connection icon is shown in Figure 3.1.

After double-clicking on the icon the window shown in Figure 3.2 opens up.

Click on Connect and Windows® 95 will start to dial the phone. While this is happening the window shown in Figure 3.3 will display.

After a connection is established a terminal window will open up. A sample terminal window is shown in Figure 3.4. At this point you should log into your ISP and start a PPP session. Log in to your ISP and begin a network sessions, following their instructions. After the appropriate protocol is started then click on Continue.

The window shown in Figure 3.5 is displayed while Windows 95 is negotiating with the remote computer.

When the negotiating is complete the window shown in Figure 3.6 will appear. You are connected! Minimize this window and start your surfing.

If you click on Details the window in Figure 3.7 will open.
